Een adaptatie van
Coventry Carol, een Engels kerstlied uit de 16e eeuw.
Het lied werd traditioneel uitgevoerd als onderdeel van
The Pageant of the Shearmen and Tailors, een toneelstuk dat het kerstverhaal uit het Evangelie volgens Matteüs vertelt. Het lied zelf verwijst naar de moord op de onschuldige kinderen, waarbij Herodes de opdracht gaf om alle mannelijke kinderen onder de twee jaar uit Betlehem te doden. De song heeft de vorm van een slaapliedje dat wordt gezongen door de moeders van de kinderen.
